Hang-out.
How can these two words, plus the hyphen, do
justice to all the emotions, all the
intrigue, all the intensity, all the energy,
all the hair-raising fights, all the
spine-tingling romances, all the bonds which
are broken and formed within these two
words? What's amazing is that they
do. Sometimes I think the secret lies
in the hyphen.

No, not just
because hang-out would be nowhere, not to mention
laughable, without the hyphen connecting the hang
and the out, but because all the fireworks
which make hang-out such a trip explode at some point
between the H and the T, and not anyplace on the
outside, so I figured that pinpointing the hyphen as
"where it's at" would be a safe enough
assumption. Safety aside (since caution is
certainly not what hang-out all about....to hell with
it!), I also hold the hyphen accountable for the
indescribable, ungraspable "what that?"
that perfectly characterizes hang-out because, from
the way I see it, it is those blank lines, or in this
case, that blank window just waiting to be filled by
outbursts, exclamations, !viewlogs, and
what-have-yous, just waiting to be filled in by YOU
that allows the phenomenon called hang-out to happen.
When
you think about it, hang-out and phenomenon isn't all
that far apart. Without any exaggeration, if
hang-out were an earthquake it would rate a 20 on the
Richter Scale, and if it were a storm, well, let's
just say that you wouldn't have a roof over your head
by now, and if it were a volcanic erruption -- let's
not even go there.
To
my knowledge, lives have yet to be lost to
hang-out though, with hearts, a handful of
minds, and a gazzilion hours or so of sleep.
But
then again, why take my word for it?
For all you know, I just may have been it's
first casualty. Besides, who am I
anyway, that you'd risk the loss of your
heart and mind just to make these flurry of
words worth your while. As it is, I'm
wondering how I've managed to spend precious
minutes away from hang-out to turn-out these
words in the hopes that I'll be able to
return with you in tow. But then, you
don't even know me, or do you?
In
hang-out, stranger things have happened...
Don't take my word for it. They don't
hold even an iota of what hang-out really is,
or do they? I guess there's just one
way to find out.
